We've all suffered from dry, chapped lips at some point in our lives, and now that the cooler seasons are coming, it's more important than ever to protect them.  The cold air and increase in central heating mean that the delicate skin on the lips is vulnerable to becoming dry and cracked much faster than usual, so why not try our useful tips below to keep them hydrated and soft.

chapped lips

1- Avoid licking your lips

You may think you are moistening your lips by licking them, but in fact, you are removing the natural protective oils on them causing lips to become even more chapped and dry.

2- Exfoliate

Gentle exfoliation can help get rid of dry, flaky skin on chapped lips and prevent them from cracking. Use a lip scrub, or perhaps even your toothbrush to gentle exfoliate away dry, dead skin cells. But make sure you are not exfoliating already cracked lips, as this can further irritate the skin and damage your lips.

3- ZO Medical Liprebuild Treatment

Liprebuild is an advanced lip therapy treatment for men and women which is bioengineered to reverse and restore dry, wrinkled and cracked lips.  It contains powerful plant stem cell antioxidants and Vitamins A and E to help defend lips from the elements.  Fantastic under lipstick as a lip conditioner, it's great for ensuring your colour goes on smoothly without flaking.

4- Always wear an SPF

No matter what time of year, you should be protecting not just your skin but your lips too with an SPF that will help prevent sun damage and slow down the appearance of thin lips. It's worth bearing in mind that some lipsticks and glosses contain SPF too.

 5- Drink more water

Drinking enough water (the equivalent of at least 8 glasses every day) will keep the body, skin and lips hydrated- take a bottle with you wherever you go.
