It’s the only time in your life that your skin is effectively brand new, but ZO® wants to achieve that fresh look, regardless of age.

What Makes Skin Healthy?

The properties below combined are what make up healthy skin:

  • Smooth: For skin to be regarded as healthy it must have an effective exfoliation process and a healthy dose of keratin to give skin it’s strength and youthful glow.
  • Firm: Another essential element for healthy skin is for there to be collagen and elastin production to keep your skin tight and lifted.
  • Even in Tone: To classify your skin as healthy, there must be no pigmentation or uneven tones in the skin which dull the skin. Your skin’s melanin-producing cells should work regularly and evenly for a smooth complexion.
  • Hydrated: Your skin has its own moisturising resources. We have previously talked about high-street moisturisers being a crutch for dehydrated skin. Healthy skin does not require moisturisers to replenish the skin. It should have its own stable moisturising factors and a firm barrier to keep in moisture.
  • Strong: The skin is tougher than you think. When the skin is healthy is should be able to arrest free radicals and inflammation to protect the skin from damage.
  • Disease-Free: Of course, healthy skin does not suffer from acne, rosacea or melasma. Which is why ZO® has protocols specially designed to tackles these skin problems head-on, to give you gorgeous glowing skin.

How Does your Skin Lose its Health as You Age?

Age 11 and Under

Children have nearly perfect skin as they have excellent repair capabilities and low sebaceous gland activity.

Ages 12 – 25

In adolescents and young adults, acne commonly plays a key factor in their skin problems. There is often high sebaceous gland activity and an increase in pore size. Plus, a mild reduction in the skin’s dermal repairability, it’s immune system, levels collagen production and skin hydration result in the beginnings of fine lines. However, the skin is still very active, with rapid cell turnover rates and cohesion between layers for a strong skin barrier.

Ages 25 – 45

By this age range, the first signs of wrinkles will appear, alongside a slight loss skin elasticity and the early signs of sagging around the eye area. This is due to a moderate decrease in dermal repair which results in reduced collagen synthesis. What’s more, your skin will likely have accumulated a substantial amount of damaged corrective tissue as well as a significant drop in skin hydration. You may also experience adult acne.

Ages 45 – 55

Middle-aged skin often appears more wrinkled, with a rougher texture and further sagging around the eye area and cheeks. Some may also experience sallow yellow coloured pores as well as noticeable brown spots. This is due to a continued decrease in dermal repair, the skin’s immune system and general dermal degradation. Additionally, the epidermis and stratum corneum begin to thin and cohesion between skin layers decline. Many often find their becomes drier as well.

Ages 55 +

Mature skin’s dermal repair is entirely compromised. The skin has acquired an abundance of damaged connective tissue in addition to the severe decline in collagen, elastin and sebum production. Consequently, the skin around this age has wrinkles, lines and sagging skin. Furthermore, there is an increase in erratic melanin production resulting in dark circles under eyes and skin pigmentation.

This is why it is so important to start an effective skincare routine as soon as possible. Prevention is always easier than treatment, and so the younger you start on your ZO® routine the younger your skin will remain! But don’t worry, even if you have severe skin problems, ZO® products and protocols can change your life.
